A STILL unidentified gunman shot and killed a 57-year-old radio broadcaster in Misamis Occidental early morning Sunday before fleeing, a Philippine National Police (PNP) report said.

The killer shot the victim identified as Juan Jumalon aka “Johnny Walker,” the owner of Radio Station 94.7 Calamba Gold FM, around 5:35 in the morning without any provocation before escaping.

A police tracker team has been formed to capture the assassin.

A Police Regional Office (PRO) 10 investigation showed that the victim was working inside his station located in his residence in Purok 2, Barangay Don Bernardo A. Neri in Calamba, Misamis Occidental, when shot.

Investigators said that the suspect suddenly went inside the victim’s residence and shot the victim without any warning.

The victim was also described as an employee of Calamba Water District.

Police said that the radioman suffered a bullet wound in his lower lip and was brought by his family to the Calamba District Hospital where an attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.

The bullet penetrated the back of the victim’s head.

Shortly after the shooting, members of the Calamba Municipal Police Station put up checkpoints and conducted a dragnet operation to arrest the killer. However, no arrest was made as of press time.

The motive and identity of the gunman is still being investigated by a special investigation task group created to spearhead the probe into the shooting incident, said PRO10 director, Brigadier General Ricardo G. Layug Jr.
