QUEZON City policemen arrested in a checkpoint a fleeing security guard tagged in the killing of his fellow security guard Sunday.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director PBGen. Redrico Maranan identified the suspect as Romnick Abayon Perote, 34, a security guard at Parkview Executive Village, and a resident of Brgy. Bagumbong, Caloocan City.

Novaliches Police Station (PS 4) chief PLt. Col. Jerry Castillo said they received information regarding a shooting incident in Parkview Heights Exclusive Village in Brgy. Bagumbong, Caloocan City around 8:20 p.m. last Sunday.

Upon receipt of information, PS 4 operatives conducted a checkpoint along Susano Road corner Austria St., Brgy. Nova Proper, Novaliches, Quezon City to arrest the suspect.

At the checkpoint, they arrested the suspect onboard a passenger jeepney.

The victim was identified as Jodel Moreno, 48, of Block 88, Lot 16, Northville 2B, Bagumbong.

Police said the suspect shot and killed the victim when the latter prevented him from entering the gate of the subdivision because he was under the influence of alcohol.

However, instead of following, the suspect didn’t, thus resulting in the verbal tussle between the two security guards that ended in the shooting to death of Moreno.

Confiscated from the suspect was a caliber .38 gun with five live ammunition.

“I commend the dedication of PS 4 personnel for their swift conduct of checkpoints which led to the arrest of the suspect. This proves that checkpoint operations are really crucial for deterring criminal activities,” Maranan said. By MELNIE RAGASA-JIMENA and EDD REYES
