QC cops collar 2 suspects for selling stolen ‘fixie’ bike
OPERATIVES of the Anonas Police Station (PS) 9 arrested two suspects who allegedly stole and sold a stolen “fixie” (fixed gear) bicycle on a social media site.
Anonas Police Station Commander P/Lt. Col. Reynaldo Vitto said the arrested male suspects, a 20-year-old resident of Bgy. Krus na Ligas, Quezon City, and a 19 years old, resident of Bgy. Matandang Balara, also in QC.
Initial investigation showed that on March 27, 2023, at around 10 p.m., the victim left his Celt fixed gear bike locked beside his house in Bgy. Malaya, QC.
When the victim went outside at 4 a.m. on March 28, he noticed that the fixie bike was already missing, and he immediately reported the incident to PS-9 at 11 a.m.
Later that day, the victim saw a message posted in a Facebook (FB) group for fixed gear bicycles where an account shared a post that read, “For sale, the Project V1 Front Track 1K,” and the bike photos showed his missing bicycle.
He then created a “dummy” FB account, contacted the seller, and acted as a “buyer” of his missing fixie bike. The victim eventually contacted one of the suspects and made a deal to buy the bicycle.
The suspect and the victim agreed to meet up at a supermarket chain in Commonwealth at 2 p.m. At the same time, PS-9 operatives prepared for the entrapment operation against the suspect.
During the meetup, the other suspect appeared instead of the online seller and was immediately arrested by the authorities. He later confessed that the “seller” was the one who took the fixie bike.
The remaining suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation at his residence, and PS-9 operatives seized his supposed “getaway” bicycle. Recovered were the victim’s stolen bike worth P20,000, a black mountain bike worth P6,000, and a cellphone.
The seller will be facing theft charges, while his pal will be charged with violation of PD 1612 or the Anti-Fencing Law.
