PVL rigodon
HONESTLY, I cannot wait to see how the first of the two All Filipino conferences of the Premiere Volleyball League( PVL) this year will be as it finally opens mid-February.
And it will be because of the current rigodon of players going on with practically all the teams revamping their line-ups , boosted by the availability of a lot of star , even superstar players with sone opting out of their respective teams for different reasons.
But it is the disbandment of F2 Logistics of its champion team, at least when it was still playing in the defunct Pilipinas Super League (PSL) , that has fueled the merry go round of active players in the PVL.
F2 came out with its statement last December that it will focus now on the grassroots level though it was not defined how the company will do that.
My guess, it will continue its support for De La Salle’s women’s volleyball team in tne UAAP, which was how it started its journey into the commercial league in the first place.
Actually Gerflor has also disbanded but its line up does not excite unlike F2, also, Ricjy Palou has said there are replacement teams already, it is just a matter of what teams will be accepted .
No doubt though that F2’s bevy of star players will have takers and that is how it was, the duo of Aby Marano and Ara Galang were welcomed by Chery Tiggo, a big boost for the team definitely.
Myla Pablo returned to her previous team Petro Gazz which lost several key players.
Dawn Macandili-Catindig brings her libero skills to Cignal while Kim Fajardo, Majoy Baron, and Kim Kiana Dy will join forces with Mika Reyes in PLDT, that will certainly boost the team’s chances.
The surprise was Ivy Lacsina moving to NxLed which I heard offered a very good deal to Ivy, but then there were even bigger surprises, this time from last conference runner up team Choco Mucho.
Well not really surprising for me because the trio of Bea de Leon, Denden Lazaro-Revilla and Caitlin Viray, the latter for me is the league’s prettiest face, will be playing with new teams next nonth.
Fact is in the last conference, the playing time of these three dwindled down for what reasons I do not know.
Bea and Denden have moved to sister team Creamline while Caitlin will be the face of Farm Fresh where she is expected to lead this young team.
Another big surprise was Petro Gazz, which will be missing key players Reny Palma, Gretchcel Soltones, and Aiza Pontillas, I am guessing this has something to do with salaries.
Remy will suit up for Cignal, Gretchcel has moved to Akari , but nothing definite for Aiza.
Other players that have either been dropped or opted out include Bia General, from Cignal to Choco Mucho which has also signed up Mars Alba and Mean Mendrez.
PLDT has dropped Mitch Morente and Angie Legacion, with Mitch going to Petro Gazz while Angie has no team yet. Jovelyn Fernandez has moved to Cignal, Erika Raagas to Farm Fresh while Cherry Nunag will be going back to her military service.
You see it will be a different PVL when action resumes next month.
I just hope the salary capping plan of Ricky happens soon as salaries have been spiralling, good for the players, not necessarily for the league .
See you guys there, February 17 I understand will be opening day.
