NANAWAGAN si Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. ng isang pambansang hakbang para protektahan ang mga botante mula sa digital deception, kasunod ng ulat tungkol sa paggamit ng mga pekeng social media accounts upang ipagtanggol si dating Pangulong Rodrigo R. Duterte at manipulahin ang mga isyu na maaaring makaapekto sa resulta ng 2025 midterm elections.
“We must defend the Filipino people not just from guns and goons, but from ghost accounts flooding their social media feeds with propaganda and deception,” ani Gonzales.
Ayon sa mambabatas mula sa Pampanga, lumabas sa ulat ng Reuters na halos one-third ng mga social media account na nagpo-post tungkol sa kaso ni Duterte sa International Criminal Court (ICC) ay peke.
Ayon sa tech firm na Cyabra mula sa Israel, ang mga parehong taktika ay ginagamit ngayon sa isang “deliberate, organized” na kampanya upang hubugin ang opinyon ng publiko ukol sa darating na halalan sa Mayo.
Nagbabala si Gonzales na ang patuloy na pagkalat ng digital manipulation ay isang seryosong banta sa integridad ng proseso ng halalan sa bansa.
“When bots, trolls, and fake profiles can reach millions of Filipinos and alter the truth with just a few clicks, democracy itself is under attack,” ani Gonzales.
Hinimok din ni Gonzales ang Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) na magkatuwang na maglunsad ng national digital literacy program upang matulungan ang mga estudyante at publiko na matukoy at labanan ang mga disinformation campaign.
“It’s not enough to fact-check after the damage is done. We need to inoculate our people against lies and fake news—especially the youth who are most active online and most vulnerable to digital manipulation,” sabi ni Gonzales.
Nanawagan din siya sa lahat ng partido na tahasang tutulan ang paggamit ng “click armies” at bayarang influencers.
“Disinformation is not a campaign strategy. It is a threat to free elections and informed choice,” giit ni Gonzales. “If we truly believe in democracy, then we must all play fair.”
