THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-9 Saturday noted a generally peaceful Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and All Saints’ Day across Western Mindanao, citing the relentless security measures implemented by the regional police force.

PRO-9 director Brigadier General Bowenn Joey Masauding said 1,951 officers were deployed in 228 cemeteries and memorial parks in the region to assure that peace and order will be maintained and no untoward incidents will disrupt the solemn occasion.

Two-hundred-fifty personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies, as well as 643 ‘force multipliers’ from local government units and other non-governmental organizations, joined a total of 1,058 PRO-9 officers and men to assure peace and order in the region.

Just like in the recently-concluded BSKE, Masauding said that troops were stationed along major thoroughfares, transportation hubs/terminals and areas of convergence to ensure public safety.

The local police and the military likewise stepped-up its intelligence gathering with the help of their partners from the government and the community.

The PRO 9 director has declared last Monday’s BSKE in Western Mindanao was generally peaceful as they partnered with the AFP, the Commission on Elections and the Philippine Coast Guard to ensure a safe and orderly elections.

He said that although there were isolated minor incidents reported in some parts of the region, security forces promptly addressed these incidents, thus minimizing their impact on the overall conduct of the election.

“The proactive measures taken by the authorities ensured that the election proceeded smoothly and without any major security disruptions,” the general said.
