THE government needs to revitalize and upgrade its postal service to meet the daily needs of the mushrooming population.

Thus, it is heartening to know that the government is out to modernize the services of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost).

Now headed by Postmaster General Mike Planas, PHLPost is a government-owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC).

After assuming office on June 18, Planas, a former Quezon City councilor, said PHLPost is capable of serving the people.

But the 1,200 post offices across the country, notably those located in remote areas, ought to be equipped with much-needed facilities.

Planas vowed to create new product lines to enable the agency to boost its revenues.

Indeed, there is a need to revitalize the postal service to meet the needs of the Filipino people and make its mark as a top delivery entity.

“You don’t expect commercial couriers to deliver mail and packages to far-flung areas,” according to the former QC alderman.

And the Postmaster General assured that PHLPost can and will continue to serve the people – wherever they are.

With the highly-educated Planas at the helm of PHLPost, we expect the country’s post offices to regain their old glory.
