PNP to Pinoys: Follow Undas rules, regulations

PNPTHE Philippine National Police (PNP), headed by General Benjamin Acorda Jr., told Filipinos paying respects to their departed loved ones to strictly follow all rules and regulations imposed to assure peace and order in all public cemeteries and private memorial parks nationwide.

This as police, in full coordination with local government units, will strictly ban drugs, liquor, weapons, gambling paraphernalia, karaoke and other loud music players in all cemeteries.

According to PNP Public Information Office chief and spokesperson Colonel Jean S. Fajardo, more than 27,000 policemen will be deployed nationwide to secure Filipinos as they observe All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Officers from the PNP Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies under Brigadier Gen. Gregory Bogñalbal and the PNP EOD/K9 Group headed by Brig. Gen. Albert Magno have also been dispatched to check the alertness of security guards and the effectiveness of their dog sniffers fielded in airports, seaports, bus terminals and other places of major convergence.

The police, with the help of the Philippine Coast Guard, are also implementing stricter security measures in all public utility hubs, specifically the Ninoy Aquino International Airports, Manila Domestic Airport and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) amid the expected influx of passengers.

In Metro Manila, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. has assured the preparedness of all five NCRPO districts to secure the public and commuters in today’s occasion.

Metro Manila is home to North Cemetery, the country’s biggest public cemetery, as well as the Manila Memorial Park and other private and public burial places.

The NCRPO chief said that police will be deployed in 128 cemeteries, columbariums and memorial parks, 32 major thoroughfares, 133 transportation hubs/terminals and 142 other places of convergence in the metropolis.

The Metro Manila police will be getting full support from the PCG, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Metro Manila Development Authority and other force multipliers.

As ordered by Acorda, all deployed personnel will be in their posts to maintain peace and and order. Acorda also guarantees no one would disregard the established rules before, during and after ‘Undas.’

He said all police units had been instructed to maintain a police presence at all times along travel routes, transport terminals, public cemeteries and major thoroughfares.

The PNP will establish at least one Police Assistance Center in every public cemetery or memorial park in cooperation with local government units, civilian volunteer organizations and civic clubs.

The PNP also reminded the public to take necessary precautions when leaving their houses during the long weekend.

Acorda has advised traveling homeowners to coordinate with barangay authorities for special security arrangements.
