PNP records 63rd COVID death

THE Philippine National Police mourned its 63rd COVID-19 fatality — a 55-year-old police captain assigned at the PNP National Operational Support Unit.

“Pinapaabot ko po ang aking taos-pusong pakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating namayapang pulis. Habang nariyan pa ang naturang virus, nais kong ipaalala muli sa ating mga kasamahan sa PNP ang ibayong pag-iingat,” PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

According to Gen. Eleazar, the officer tested positive on April 16 and was admitted at a Metro Manila hospital. However, after 35 days of confinement, the police officer succumbed to death on Thursday.

The PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier Gen. Luisito P. Magnaye on Friday recorded 211 new cases of COVID-19 in the force bringing the total number of PNP confirmed cases to 22,640.

The PNP-HS recorded 139 new recoveries on Friday bringing to a total of 21, 117 the number of police personnel who have fully recovered from the disease since March last year and are now back to full duty status.

There are also a total of 1,460 active cases being monitored by the PNP-HS on orders of Gen. Eleazar.
