PNP records 61st, 62nd COVID fatalities

TWO more COVID-19 fatalities in the Philippine National Police (PNP) were recorded on Monday bringing to 62 the number of police personnel who have succumbed from the deadly virus since March last year, officials said.

The 61st fatality was a Staff Sergeant from the Rizal Police Provincial Office while the 62nd is a Lieutenant from the Tarlac PPO.

PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the two and said he has ordered the immediate release of all benefits due to them.

The non-commissioned officer tested positive for the virus last May 10 after experiencing symptoms such as fever and difficulty of breathing. He was also diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease and immediately transferred to nearby hospital for emergency dialysis.

Last Friday, the cop started his dialysis treatment but the following day, he again difficulty of breathing and was advised to have another session of dialysis by his attending physician.

He died on the same day.

On the other hand, the 61st fatality was a deputy chief of one of Tarlac municipal police stations who passed away 11 p.m. Sunday while confined at the Tarlac Provincial Hospital. The officer also tested positive for COVID-19.

“Nais kong ipaabot ang taos-pusong pakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay dahil sa COVID-19. Handa po ang PNP sa anumang tulong na inyong kailangan,”Gen. Eleazar said.
