THE Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard this week further strengthened its partnership to ensure maritime security following a meeting between PNP chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. and PCG commandant Admiral Artemio M. Abu.

The two had a lengthy talk on cooperation as Gen. Azurin visited the PCG headquarters in Manila. During his visit, the top cop discussed with Admiral Abu various issues and concerns on how the PNP and PCG can work hand-in-hand to further improve their capabilities in safeguarding the Philippine waters.

Among the topics discussed were the enhancement of intelligence-sharing between the two agencies, the conduct of joint maritime patrols, and other common advocacies in environmental safety and security as well as the conservation of marine life in the vast waters of our archipelago.

Gen. Azurin also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the PCG for actively working in tandem with the PNP to provide the proper conditions for marine safety, security, law enforcement, and even search and rescue, when needed, where needed.

“The Philippine National Police will always put a premium on the partnership that we have with the Philippine Coast Guard. Not only because of our shared history but also because we serve with the same intensity and sincerity, always on alert, ever ready to serve, to secure, to protect,” the PNP chief said.

Gen. Azurin also said that in the coming holy week and summer season, the PNP-PCG capabilities and cooperation linkages will once again be hard at work.

The command visit of the Chief PNP to the PCG highlighted anew the strong partnership between the two agencies in fulfilling their mandates of protecting the people and securing the state.
