THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday commended two radiomen in Caraga region who helped foil a robbery-holdup in Butuan City by providing local policemen with information that led to the arrest of four of the suspects Thursday last week.

Lovel Calipusan and Ronald Torregosa, both from Radio Serbato-Butuan witnessed a robbery-holdup along the national highway in Barangay Ampayon, Butuan City where the suspects at gunpoint stole P970,000 from their victim.

The two immediately reported the incident to the nearest police station and even tried to pursue the fleeing robbers.

They likewise provided the Butuan City Police Station 4 with information which resulted in the capture of the robbers in Bgy. Tiniwisan.

For their good deed, the two were awarded by Police Regional Office 13 (PRO13) director, Brigadier General Pablo G. Labra II during a formal event at the PRO13 headquarters in Camp Colonel Rafael C. Rodriguez in Butuan City on Monday.

“This strategic partnership we shared and our common values knitting us together as a united community make our peace-keeping efforts progressive against lawlessness. This unity is also a manifestation that the media personalities are our equal partners in crime prevention and control,” said Labra.

PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said the recognition of Calipusan and Torregosa’s civic duty highlights the importance of every citizen’s individual role in crime prevention and control, and their partnership with law enforcement agencies.

It also serves as an inspiration to others to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to authorities promptly, the top cop added.
