THE Baguio City-based Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the country’s premier military school, holds this year’s commencement exercises on May 18, with 278 graduates.

Of the 278 members of the “PMA Bagong Sinag Class of 2024,” 224 are are males, while the rest (54) are females, while the rest (54) are females, according to the PMA.

“Bagong Sinag” is an acronym for “Bagong Henerasyong Gagampanan ang Tama: Serbisyo, Intergridad at Nasyonalismo ang Aming Gabay.”

Like other Filipinos, we doff our hat to these young men and women, who will join our armed services – Army, Navy and Air Force – at a time of challenging security issues.

These idealistic military officers are seen to be steadfast and resolute in protecting the country and the Filipino people, including the ordinary citizens,in times of peace and war.

Without doubt, PMA graduates, who are known for their bravery, honesty, loyalty and integrity, are considered part of the country’s national wealth.

The class topnotcher, Cadet First Class (CFC) Jeneth B. Eluma, 24, is from Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. She will be joining the Philippine Army (PA).

The class salutatorian, on the other hand, is 21-year-old CFC Mark Armuel Boiles of Novaliches, Quezons City. He will join the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

No. 3 is CFC Kim Harold Gilo, 2l, of Villa Kananga, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. He will join the Philippine Navy (PN).

Rounding up the Top 10 are Cyril Joy Masculino, Rosemel Dogello, Alexa Mye Valen, Floyd Nino Arthur Roxas, Giselle Tong , Danica Marie Viray and Nerova Binag.
