Pinoys in Lebanon told: Be very cautious, avoid crowds

THE Philippine Embassies in Egypt and Lebanon advised Filipinos to be very cautious and avoid mass congregations due to ongoing protests following the bombing of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital (Baptist Hospital) in Gaza City that killed at least 500 people, mostly children and women.

In an advisory, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo said “There are currently random marches/demonstrations in Egypt, including others planned for the future.”

It added “ the Philippine Embassy in Cairo advises everyone to exercise caution, keep away from mass congregations and to stay home unless necessary.”

In Lebanon, the Philippine Embassy in Beirut discouraged Filipinos from unnecessary travels especially to the south as tensions escalate between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah.

Filipinos were also urged to avoid public places and social gatherings due to ongoing protests across the Middle East country.

“Due to the ongoing mass protests across Lebanon and persistent tension in the southern border, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of civilians, the Philippine Embassy reminds Filipino nationals to take caution and avoid public places, social gatherings, unnecessary travels around Lebanon, especially to the south,” the advisory said.

Filipinos were encouraged to register and update their situation through the ATN hotline at +96170858086 or contact the Embassy’s Migrant Workers Office at +96179110729.

The 2,700 Filipinos in southern Lebanon were also told to evacuate the area due to possible Israel retaliation against attacks launched by Hezbollah.

In Jordan, the Philippine flag at the Philippine Embassy in Amman is flown at half-mast in solidarity with the hundreds of innocent lives lost in the bombing of the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital on the night of October 17.
