Ping Lacson to ensure sufficient budget for school programs, teachers’ allowances
PUBLIC schools and teachers can be assured of sufficient funding for their various needs, should former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson earn a Senate seat in May.
Lacson said he will move to augment the appropriations for programs like school nutrition as well as teachers’ allowances in the national budget – as he has done every year while in the Senate.
“When I was in the Senate, I would augment their funding in the budget deliberations. This is consistently every year,” he said.
He said this includes pushing the augmentation of the allowance of teachers, the school feeding program, and the “chalk allowances” of teachers before Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. authored a law to ensure the chalk allowance is sufficient.
Lacson said that if such augmented appropriations for schools and teachers could not be done through regular legislation, it can be done through the General Appropriations Act or the national budget.
“I did that every year through institutional amendments where we can seek added appropriations for nutrition, school feeding, and augmenting teachers’ allowances,” he said.
Lacson amended the budget law for various years to increase the funding for education-related programs that include:
* Quick Response Fund
* Indigenous People’s Education Program
* Flexible Learning Options
* Special Education Program
* Inclusive Education Program
* Child Protection Program
* Last Mile Schools Program
* UP Diliman Institute of Marine Science
* UPLB National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology’s research and development
* Continuing Education-Teacher Quality and Development Program
* Textbooks and Other Instructional Materials
* Computerization program .
