PHILRACOM honors PT sports editor Ed Andaya
PEOPLE’S Tonight/Taliba sports editor Ed Andaya was honored by the PhiIippine Racing Commission (PHILRACOM) for his contribution to the success of horseracing in the country in 2022.
PHILRACOM chairman Aurelio “Reli” de Leon presented the award to Andaya at the PHILRACOM office in Makati recently.
“The PHILRACOM presents this award of recognition for your excellent coverage of our 2022 Stakes Races. The positive exposure you gave had driven increased interest and wagering in Philippine horseracing in the preceding year, “said the PHILRACOM in a statement.
This is the fourth time that Andaya received an award from the prestigious horseracing body. He was also honored in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Last year, Andaya was also honored by the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) for his continued support to Philippine chess through extensive coverages of professional chess tournaments, such as the GM Wesley So Cup and PCAP All-Filipino.
The special award was given to Andaya by PCAP president Atty.Paul Elauria and chairman Michael Angelo Chua.
A graduate of BS Journalism at Lyceum of the Philippines University, Andaya first joined the Times Journal as a sportswriter in 1985 before becoming the sports editor of People’s Tonight in 1987 up to the present.
He is an honorary lifetime member of National Press Club, director of the Philippine Sportswriters Association and founding president of the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS).
