PH logs 6,833 new COVID-19 recoveries

MANILA – The nation’s total number of recovered coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases has reached 1,261,115 after 6,833 more recoveries were reported on Friday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) noted that recoveries account for 93.7 percent of the total case count which has reached 1,346,276 since the start of the pandemic last year.

The 6,833 new cases brought the total number of active cases to 61,776.

About 92.2 percent of these active cases are mild, 3.7 percent are asymptomatic, 1.2 percent are critical, 1.7 percent are severe, and 1.22 percent are moderate.

Some 110 new deaths were also reported, pushing the country’s total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 23,385.

According to DOH data on June 18, about 12.6 percent of 43,635 who were tested turned out positive for COVID-19.

“Some 14 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 10 were recovered cases and one is death. Moreover, 30 cases previously reported to be recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 60 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

All laboratories were operational on June 16 while five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the five non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.6 percent of samples tested, and 4.4 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 59 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit beds, 46 percent of 19,200 isolation beds, 47 percent of 12,400 ward beds, and 37 percent of 2,800 ventilators are utilized by patients with COVID-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 46 percent of 1,200 intensive care unit beds, 36 percent of 4,800 isolation beds, 33 percent of 3,600 ward beds, and 32 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with COVID-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. Philippine News Agency
