MARIING kinondena ni Deputy Speaker David “Jay-Jay” Suarez ang “weaponization” ng maling impormasyon na ginagawa at ipinapakalat ng mga pekeng pro-Duterte social media accounts, na aniya’y nagpapahina sa demokrasya ng Pilipinas sa nalalapit na 2025 midterm elections.
“This is digital warfare, plain and simple. And the battlefield is not just the internet—it’s the hearts and minds of millions of Filipinos,” ani Suarez.
Nagbigay ng reaksyon si Suarez sa isang ulat ng Reuters na nagsiwalat ng paggamit ng mga pekeng account sa social media para purihin si dating Pangulong Rodrigo R. Duterte at impluwensyahan ang usapan tungkol sa paparating na halalan.
Ayon sa research ng Israeli tech firm na Cyabra, tinatayang isa sa bawat tatlong account na nagpo-post tungkol sa pag-aresto kay Duterte ng International Criminal Court (ICC) ay peke.
Ayon pa sa ulat, halos 45 porsyento ng mga diskurso tungkol sa 2025 elections ay pinapalaganap ng mga pekeng account gaya ng bots, fake profiles at mga bayarang influencers—at umaabot ito sa milyon-milyong netizens.
“This is a wake-up call. The weaponization of disinformation to mislead, misinform and manipulate voters is one of the gravest threats to our democracy today,” babala pa ng kinatawan ng Ikalawang Distrito ng Quezon.
Ayon kay Suarez, lumalakas at gumagaling ang mga network ng disinformation kaya’t unti-unting natatabunan ang boses ng mga totoong tao sa internet, habang unti-unting nasisira ang tiwala ng publiko sa mga institusyong dapat ay naglilingkod sa kanila.
“Fake praise, fake news, fake accounts—this is how digital warfare is being waged today. And the most dangerous part is, ordinary people might not even know they’re being influenced,” aniya.
Nanawagan si Suarez sa mga malalaking social media platforms tulad ng Meta, X (dating Twitter) at YouTube na agad na kumilos at seryosong harapin ang problema ng mga fake account na sabay-sabay na nagpapakalat ng disinformation.
“They have the resources and the algorithms to detect inauthentic behavior. They can’t just turn a blind eye while democracy is under attack,” dagdag ni Suarez.
Kasabay nito, hinikayat din niya ang mas pinaigting na kampanya para sa digital literacy upang matulungan ang mga Pilipino na matukoy at labanan ang online manipulation.
“The Filipino voter is smart, but we owe it to them to give them the tools to fight back against deception. Let’s raise media literacy, promote digital hygiene and ensure our elections reflect the people’s will—not the will of shadow operators,” pahayag niya.
Nanawagan din si Suarez sa lahat ng mga politiko na itaguyod ang malinis at tapat na halalan.
“Any candidate or campaign that relies on fake engagement and digital deceit does not deserve the people’s trust,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
“Let’s put an end to this toxic culture before it poisons another generation of voters,” giit ni Suarez.
