PDP-Laban to endorse Go-Duterte tandem for 2022 polls
The national executive council of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has nominated the tandem of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and President Rodrigo Duterte as the ruling party’s standard-bearers for the 2022 elections.
PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag told the media that the endorsement of a Go-Duterte tandem was discussed during the virtual meeting of the party’s national executive council and officers on Wednesday.
This was confirmed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the party’s president.
“In our PDP national executive council meeting yesterday, it was agreed to present to the forthcoming national convention the tandem of Go-Duterte for 2022 election,” he said.
Matibag said that the endorsement will be discussed during the party’s National Assembly on September 8.
Duterte earlier said that he may run for vice president “to maintain equilibrium.”
He also said that Go dreams of becoming president. But the senator downplayed the President’s remark, saying it was a joke. The senator said he has no plans of running for higher office.
However, it was the same case in 2018 when Duterte teased him about having aspirations to be a senator, which Go vehemently denied.
Go ended up running and eventually winning a Senate seat in 2019.
