PDEGNEARLY P800 million worth of shabu and other illegal substances were seized by agents of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) as a result of its stepped-up war on drugs, the Journal Group learned Saturday.

According to PDEG director Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta, their September operations led in the recovery of P799,335,720 worth of shabu, marijuana and its high-grade derivative called Kush.

“The seizures made by the PDEG thru a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations indeed dealt a major blow to illegal drug syndicates in the country,” the official said.

Brig. Gen. Matta said the past month saw the PDEG conducting 56 anti-illegal drug operations which led in the arrest of 77 targets.

Those operations were broken down into 38 buy-busts, 4 service of search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, 1 marijuana eradication and 13 service of warrants of arrest for violation of RA 9165.

The official said that confiscated during the 30-day period were 116,901.70 grams of shabu, 2.5 grams of Kush, 2 grams of marijuana seeds, 22,000 fully-grown marijuana plants and 3 grams of dried marijuana leaves.

The official also commended the dedication and outstanding performance of the different PDEG Special Operations Units across the country.

“With ongoing community support and collaboration among law enforcement agencies, we are determined to refine our strategies and continue making substantial progress in the fight against illegal drugs,” said Brig. Gen. Matta.

Among those arrested by the PDEG was a top Chinese drug target who was caught in a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal.

The official said that the Hong Kong native yielded a knot-tied plastic packet containing 100 grams of shabu worth P680,000 during the anti-narcotics operation along C6 Road in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taytay two Saturdays ago.

According to the PDEG director, they are targeting the drug supply chain by focusing on suppliers, manufacturers, and traffickers.
