PRESIDENT Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday flew to the Abra Police Provincial Office to check the situation in the province and the situation of the residents affected by typhoon ‘Egay.’

The commander-in-chief arrived at the Abra PPO on board his presidential chopper.

Cordillera Police Regional Office director Brigadier General David Peredo Jr. and Abra police director Colonel Froiland B. Lopez welcomed the President.

President Marcos gave assistance to residents after Abra Vice Governor Jocelyn Bernos briefed him about the situation in the province.

The Cordillera police force also received over P700,000 worth of relief goods from the Philippine National Police national headquarters and the Police Regional Office 4-A during a ceremony at the Abra PPO in Camp Colonel Juan Villamor in Bangued.

PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. earlier launched the ‘Adapt-A-Region’ program, a drive that prompts PROs to support PROs hit by powerful typhoons. The top cop also started the PNP Help and Food Bank last week.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), typhoon Egay has already affected more than a million residents all over the country.

NDRRMC said Egay affected a total of 1,029,724 residents in 291,262 families.

Of this number, 15,092 people are temporarily staying in 300-plus rehabilitation centers all over the country.

In another development, the Department of Health (DoH)- Ilocos Region deployed medical and response teams from the regional office to provide post-calamity assistance to typhoon-hit residents in the Ilocos region.

Teams from DoH regional offices and Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center are now in the province to help the residents. The teams are composed of medical doctors, nurses and engineers.

The team was divided into four clusters that will provide medical and public health water sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, mental health and psychosocial support.

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center also deployed three teams consisting of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical social workers, dieticians and ambulance drivers to augment and provide medical services for communities that were seriously affected by Typhoon Egay.

Team 1 is stationed in Adams town, Currimao and Badoc are covered by Team 2 while Team 3 is in Banna.

Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the regional office has already delivered various commodities that were received by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) on July 27, 2023

The commodities delivered are composed of first aid kits, heavy-duty cot beds, hygiene kits, water containers/jerry cans, sodium effervescent tablet for drinking water disinfection, antibiotics, cough and cold medications, pain relievers, vitamins, and salbutamol inhalers.

Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are among the devastated areas after by typhoon Egay made a landfall last Friday.

In Metro Manila, the chief of the Manila Police District, Brig. Gen. Andrei Dizon, led the thorough inspection of flooded streets in Manila to assure the public will be safe amid the massive floods in many streets.

According to Dizon, come hell or high water policemen will perform their duties at any given time.

Floods as high as wait deep inundated big parts of UN Avenue, Taft Avenue, along Manila City Hall, Padre Faura St., Kalaw St., Maria Orosa cor. P. Burgos St., Finance Road,P. Ocampo and Quirino Avenue.
