QUEZON City Representative PM Vargas called for an upgrade in the present salary of government doctors.

Vargas said this is to give the state doctors recognition to their contributions and sacrifices for the country’s ongoing fight against COVID-19.

In celebration of National Heroes’ Day today, Vargas has filed House Bill 1682 or the Salary Increase for Government Doctors Bill that seeks to increase their pay from Salary Grade 21 (P62,449) to Salary Grade 23 (P78,455).

“Amidst the ongoing challenges brought about by the pandemic, it is imperative that we recognize and thank this generation’s heroes – doctors and other medical frontliners who continue the good work of saving lives and protecting the Filipino people from COVID-19,” Vargas said.

In the 18th Congress, Rep. Vargas’ brother, former lawmaker and now Quezon City Councilor Alfred Vargas, authored RA 11712 or the Benefits and Allowances to Public and Private Health Care Workers Law enacted last April 27, 2022.

“We want to continue providing better opportunities and compensation to our medical heroes so we can also encourage them and future doctors to stay, fight alongside Filipinos, and serve our beloved country together,” Rep. Vargas added.

Within his first 50 days as Congressman, Rep. Vargas has filed more than 50 bills related to the health and labor sector, two of his priority legislative agenda among others.
