
P9.4M MJ crops destroyed in Kalinga
AN estimated P9.4 million worth of marijuana crops were seized in recent anti-narcotics operations in Kalinga, Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) director, Brigadier General Narciso D. Domingo said on Sunday.
In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said members of the DEG Special Operations 2, with the support of the Tinglayan Municipal Police Station and the Naval Intelligence Security Group-Northern Luzon destroyed around 17,000 marijuana plants and seedlings worth P3.4 million in Barangay Buscalan last Tuesday.
No cultivator was arrested during the operation. Another operation in Sitio Akafu, Poblacion, Tinglayan municipality led to the recovery of 60 marijuana bricks valued at P7.2 million.
The official said DEG SOU Cordillera agents and local policemen were in the area when they spotted from a distance two men carrying plastic bags. The two fled on foot towards the heavily-forested area after seeing the approaching officers leaving behind their contraband.
The recovered marijuana bricks were burned on site.
