OVP distributes relief goods to flood victims in Zambo City

THE Office of the Vice President’s Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) distributed relief goods in remote parts of Zamboanga City that were affected by heavy flooding starting Sunday evening, Christmas day.

The OVP-DOC, in partnership with the Western Mindanao Command, Marine Batallion Landing Team 11, 74th Infantry Batallion, OVP Zamboanga Satellite Office, and the Social Welfare and Development Office of Zamboanga City delivered relief boxes containing essentials such as water, sanitary items, sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, and face masks to the flood-affected residents of Zamboanga City.

Families from Barangays Putik, Cabuluay, Culianan, Pasolobong, and Boalan received the said relief packages from the OVP-DOC on Sunday. But due to heavy rain, the distribution of relief boxes in Bgy. Tumaga was conducted on the morning of December 26, 2022.

According to the latest update from the city government of Zamboanga, more than 400 residents seek shelter in eight evacuation centers in different barangays.

A resident was reported missing when flooding struck due to the heavy rains that started on Christmas Eve (December 24).

An orange rainfall warning was raised on Saturday night as rains spawned by the shear line and wind convergence battered at least ten barangays in Zamboanga City.
