OFWs, their families should have zero hospital bills — Rep.Tulfo
CONSIDERING the sacrifices that they endure in uplifting the country’s economy, it is only right that the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) pay for the hospital bills of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.
In an interview with the local media, Cong. Erwin Tulfo recently said that PhilHealth would be doing a big service if it would care for the health of the OFWs and their families.
“Sobrang malaking kabawasan ito sa gastusin ng ating OFW lalo na yung mga domestic helper, labor, at mabababang sahod sa ibang bansa,” the ACT-CIS Representative said.
He added that, “Kahit kalahati man lang ng kanilang hospital bill ang sagutin ng PhilHealth at sa kahit anong uri ng sakit, ay malaking bagay na.”
At present, PhilHealth only shoulders up to 30 percent of the medical bills of all its members, depending on the disease.
“Hindi lang OFW mismo ang covered ng benepisyong ito, dapat pati na rin ang kanyang naiwang pamilya sa bansa,” Cong. Tulfo added.
According to the legislator, this was one of the requests relayed to him by the OFWs whom he met when he went to Paris, France for their Barrio Fiesta activity.
He promised to file a proposed bill on this matter.
