SECURITY forces, acting on intelligence tips, on Thursday seized weapons and explosives being stocked by the New People’s Army (NPA) in their encampment in Besao, Mountain Province, Cordillera Police Regional Office director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said.

According to Lee, members of the Besao Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 69th Infantry Battalion launched an operation in Bgy. Gueday in Besao municipality following an information that local NPA rebels were hiding their armaments in the area.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, the Cordillera police director said soldiers and policemen scouring the area later recovered one M-16 automatic rifle with defaced serial numbers, a 2.3-kilogram command-detonated improvised explosive device, four sets of command-detonated explosives each weighing a kilo, a 100 meter-long electrical wire, two Motorola handheld radios, one Icom radio with charger, a mobile phone and an electronic digital tester.

The recovered NPA weapons and other armaments were placed under the custody of the Army’s 69th IB, said Lee.
