NPA recruiter, 9 others fall in anti-crime ops

TEN lawbreakers, one of them a suspected New People’s Army organizer and recruiter in Mimaropa region were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on the strength of warrants for various criminal offenses issued by different courts, PNP-CIDG director, Major General Albert Ignatius D. Ferro said on Sunday.

The official said Ricky Tumason alias ‘Ka Boy Tumason,’ a suspected organizer/recruiter of the NPA’s Bienvenido Vallver Command was arrested on the basis of a warrant for murder with no bail recommended by Judge Bienvenido Blancaflor of the Puerto Princesa City Regional Trial Court Branch 95.

Ferro said Tumason was tracked down in his hiding place in Barangay Tinitian, Roxas, Palawan. Prior to his arrest, the suspect was monitored to be recruiting even minors in the province to join the NPA movement, the official said.

“This group is engaged in terrorist acts in the said province endangering the lives of the community and the complainants. The accused had been using a recruitment scheme to persuade minors in joining the armed group,” Maj. Gen. Ferro said in a report to PNP chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos.

Ronito Sarabia, 57, tricycle driver from Bgy. San Pedro, Puerto Princesa City was arrested on the basis of a warrant for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property issued by Judge Ronilo Beronio of the Taytay, Palawan Municipal Circuit Trial Court.

Last Monday, CIDG operatives also nabbed nine other fugitives in separate manhunt operations in the country.One of the suspects, construction worker Darryl Maglaya, tagged as the 2nd most wanted man in La Union was arrested on the basis of a non-bailable warrant for statutory rape. The 2nd, Ruel Saldua alias ‘Bago’ was arrested in Bgy. San Gregorio in Alaminos City in Laguna on the strength of a warrant for frustrated murder issued by the San Pablo City RTC. The suspect was identified as the 8th most wanted in Laguna province.

The 3rd, Rey Atupan alias ‘Opaw’ has been in hiding for nearly four years when he was arrested in his hiding place in Bgy. Zone II in Koronadal City in South Cotabato.

Ferro said the suspect, tagged as one of the most wanted persons in Region 12, was found guilty of murder by Judge Joyce Mirabueno of the General Santos City RTC Branch 58 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The 4th identified as John Oliver Arboleras, tagged as a member of a drug group in Central Visayas was arrested in Bohol on the basis of a warrant for violation of the anti-child abuse law and other acts of child abuse issued by Judge Leo Lison of the Tagbilaran City RTC Branch 3.

The PNP-CIDG chief said another sex offender identified as Cris June Daquipil, a 29-year old massage therapist was arrested in Bgy. Tagpupuran in Lingig, Surigao del Sur on the strength of a warrant for acts of lasciviousness in relation to the anti-child abuse law issued by Judge Ambrosio Moleta.

Two others identified as Melwyn Arrubio and Jayzel Tacan, both the subject of a warrant for estafa issued by Judge Editha Mina-Aguba of the Quezon City RTC Branch 100 voluntarily surrendered to the CIDG Anti-Transnational Crime Unit.

Another identified as Abel Acleb,26, a resident of Bgy. Talboc in Mayoyao, Ifugao was arested on the basis of a warrant for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Efren Cacatian of the Santiago City RTC Branch 35 in Isabela.

“Through our anti-criminality campaign against these suspects, we are giving back hope to the victims of such violence, abuse, or exploitation that justice will prevail and violators will be punished,” said Maj. Gen. Ferro.
