IT is certainly heartening to know that there are no reports of military personnel quiting over the arrest of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte,

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in a statement last Thursday, said the reports “remain unverified.”

Earlier reports said that some social media posts claimed that the alleged resignations were triggered by the arrest of the formerChief Executive.

Police operatives arrested Duterte at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and brought him to nearby Villamor Air Base. where he boarded a chartered private jet.

Before midnight, the plane, with Duterte and former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on board, left for Dubai enroute to Hague, the Netherlands.

Duterte will be tried by the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity.

Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, AFP spokesperson, said the military is a professional institution.

As such, she said, the AFP should not be dragged into the arrest and transfer of Duterte to the custody of the ICC.

“Dahil nasa korte na ang kaso ni Pangulong Duterte ay pabayaan nating gumulong ang hustisya doon,” a former migrant worker said.
