New Era, AIMS forge three-way tie for lead

NEW Era Univeristy clobbered Bataan Peninsula State University, 85-75, while Asian Institute of Maritime Studies outplayed Philippine College of Criminology, 95-88, for their third win in the 4th Philippine University Basketball League (PUBL) basketball championship at Philippine Lam An Association Sports Complex in Abad Santos, Manila.

The Hunters, who ares being handled by coach Jay Agsalud and consultant Gabby Velasco, relied anew on Joseph Catome, Jared Sevilla, Jethro Catome and Franse Angeles.

Joseph Catome topscored with 18 points for New Era, which registered its third win in four outings for share of the lead with Mapua University, Dela Salle University-Dasma and AIMS.

Sevilla added 16 points, Jethro Catome had 14 points and Angeles contributed 10 points for New Era, which is fully supported by university president Dr. Alberto R. Domingo Jr., sports director Rodillo Legaspi and team manager Art Onas.

Isaiah DeLeon carrried the fight for Bataan Penimsula State University with 19 points, followed by Karl Constantino with 15 and Jaycee Valerio with 12 points.

The Kiko Flores-mentored Blue Sharks leaned on Matthew Lapira, Jerico Peralta and Gushtin Gurrea in defeating PCCr also for its third win in four matches.

Lapira scattered 18 points for the Engr. Ted Cada-supported Blue Sharks.

Peralta and Gurrea contributed 15 and 14 points for the Pasay City based school.

The tournament is organized by Federation of School Sports Athletic Association (FESSAP), headed by Edwin Fabro, in cooperation with Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), headed by Dr Robert Milton Calo. AA
