New DepEd secretary
THE key to addressing the various problems confronting the vital education sector is the appointment of the right head of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Aware of this, President Marcos has asked for more time as finding the replacement of former DepEd top honcho Vice President Sara Z. Duterte was harder than he thought.
Of course, we share the view of the Chief Executive from Ilocos Norte that the trick is to get it right. “We’re looking at everyone. We don’t make a shortlist,” Marcos said.
The next education secretary must have an understanding of what is important in terms of being an eduacator, he added.
Not only that. The replacement of VP Duterte ought to be able to “galvanize” the DepEd and make the educational standard better.
To drive the point home, President Marcos underscored the importance of naming an educator who understands how to help the students and the teachers.
“That requires a very good hand on the pillar of the DepEd, who can manage it properly…who understands how to use the budget properly, all of these things,” he said.
With a new DepEd secretary, there should be happy reasons to expect the best in the weeks, months and years ahead.
We believe that the administration of Marcos has concrete plans of action on how to address the problems of the education sector.
Certainly, it is a gigantic undertaking but not an impossible mission.
