NBI willing to probe Basilan mayor’s slay
JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday expressed willingness to order the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the killing Al-Barka, Basilan Mayor Darussalam Saguindilan Lajid and a bodyguard, but only after the local police conduct the initial investigation.
“As to the recent violence in Zamboanga City, we’ll let the police do the initial investigation first…we’ll see first if the local police could solve it. But I will alert the NBI to extend assistance if requested anytime,” Guevarra said.
Lajid and bodyguard Barad Nuruddin died on their way to the hospital after four still unidentified gunmen shot them and Akbar Mayor Alih Awal Sali in Barangay Baliwasan, Zamboanga City at 8:31 a.m., Monday, December 6.
Sali was in critical state, but reports said, he’s now in stable condition in a hospital in Zamboanga City.
