FORMAL charges are now being readied by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against two individuals who were accused of stealing water from fire hydrants in Binondo, Manila.

The two suspects face charges of violating the Republic Act 8041 or the National Water Crisis Act of 1995.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by the representatives of Maynilad Water Services Inc. Maynilad alleging that the suspects were involved in the unauthorized siphoning of water from fire hydrants without proper authority.

According to NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor, the suspects will allegedly sell the water to residential and commercial establishments whose water services have been disconnected from non-payment of bills.

The NBI Anti-Fraud Division immediately conducted a surveillance operation which confirmed the water theft.

NBI operatives hatched an operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects. By Hector Lawas
