NBI deploys more than 200 new cybercrime agents all over PH

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has deployed more than 200 new cybercrime agents all over the country to beef up the bureau’s manpower to combat digital crimes.

“I have assigned ten (10) more agents in Cybercrime Division in Manila and designated two hundred (200) agents for Regional and District offices of the NBI as cybercrime agents who will handle cybercrime related cases,” NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor said in a statement.

Also to boost its cybercrime investigative capabilities, the NBI acquired various high-tech equipment that will improve cyber response, cybercrime investigation and cyber security of the NBI-Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD).

Distor led on June 9 the turnover of various digital forensic equipment to the NBI-CCD.

The NBI has purchased high end digital forensic wquipment that will help the NBI cybercrime agents and forensic experts in providing modern investigation and technical assistance in the investigation of cyber-related crimes and as well as preservation and examination of digital evidence.

In the first quarter of 2022, Distor ordered to strengthen the anti-cybercrime capabilities of the bureau to enable it to immediately respond to cybercrime cases and complaints filed by citizens such as identity theft, online scam or fraud, hacking of bank accounts and personal accounts, phishing, cyber libel, forensic accounting, and other violations that fall within the ambit of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Distor assured the public that the NBI will continue to provide adequate and necessary tool and equipment to effectively perform its service to the people.
