A MEMBER of the Philippine Navy involved in illegal gun trafficking was recently arrested in an entrapment operation in Taguig City.

Philippine National Police Maritime Group director Brigadier General Jonathan A. Cabal identified the suspect as Apprentice Seaman Ronel Rodis, 25, who was assigned to the Philippine Marines Civil-Military Operations Group based in Taguig City.

He yielded an unlicensed caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing 10 bullets and the buy-bust money topped by a marked bill during the entrapment operation in front of Gate 3 Plaza on G. Juliano Avenue in Taguig City.

Brig. Gen. Cabal said that members of the PNP-MG 3rd Special Operations Unit led by Captain Bernardo del Mundo conducted the sting following a tip from an informant that the accused is involved in gun trafficking.

He said the suspect was also the subject of an intelligence operation by the Naval Intelligence Security Group before his arrest.

“We’re looking into reports that he is acting in cahoots with some of his colleagues from the Army,” Brig. Gen. Cabal said.

The suspect was arrested shortly after he sold the unlicensed pistol to an undercover officer for P20,000.
