HOUSE Speaker Martin Romualdez has asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to give assistance to a total of 1,589 fishermen who were affected by the West Philippine issue and poor senior citizens in Palawan.

The said individuals were given cash aid through the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the DSWD in the town of Aborlan, Palawan.

According to Speaker Romualdez, who serves as caretaker of Palawan 3rd District after the death of Rep. Edward Hagedorn, “Inilapit sa atin nina Cong. Jose Alvarez at ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo ang hinaing ng mga mangingisda pati na ang mga mahihirap na senior citizen sa nasabing bayan sa Palawan”.

The Speaker added, “sumbong sa akin ng mga fishermen doon, lubhang naapektuhan ang kita nila dahil lagi silang tinataboy ng mga Chinese Coast Guard”.

Earlier, Romualdez also gave out scholarship grants to 600 students who are also the children of fishermen there.

Speaker Romualdez personally visited the area last week to hear the problems of the residents there.

“Now we heard their problems, syempre gagawan natin ng paraan. after all, para ano pa na naging representative tayo nila sa kongreso,” Romualdez said.
