NEW directors of four key Philippine National Police units have been named by PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Wednesday, the Journal Group learned.

Brigadier Gen. Victor V. Arevalo, a member of PNP Academy ‘Sandigan’ Class of Class 1994 was designated as the new head of the PNP Training Service vice Brig. Gen. Radel DL Ramos of PNPA ‘Patnubay’ Class of 1995.

Ramos on the other hand was named as the new PNP Headquarters Support Service director vice Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr., another PNPA Class 1994 member who has been designated as the new Police Regional Office 2 director in Cagayan Valley after being the Camp Crame commander for more than a year.

Brig. Gen. Jose DJ Manalad Jr., also of PNPA Class 1994 was designated as the new chief of the Center for Police Strategy Management vice Brig. Gen. Arevalo.

Meanwhile, Colonel Maria Sheila T. Portento of PNPA ‘Kaagapay’ Class of 1996 was named as the Acting Dean of Academics of the PNPA, a position that will earn her a star rank.

On Tuesday, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy’s nemesis, PRO11 director, Brig. General Nicolas D. Torre III was named by Gen. Marbil as the new chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group effective.

A former Quezon City Police District director, Torre will earn his 2nd-star as director of the PNP-CIDG which is the lead PNP unit tasked to probe major crimes and monitor, investigate and prosecute crimes involving economic sabotage and crimes of related magnitude.

PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil ordered new designations in the PNP with General Orders issued by PNP The Chief Directorial Staff, Lieutenant Gen. Jon A. Arnaldo and PNP Director for Personnel and Records Management, Maj. Gen. Sidney S. Hernia.

Journal Group sources said more changes in top PNP positions will be made by October 1 with the retirement of Lt. Gen. Arnaldo, a classmate of Gen. Marbil from PMA Class 1991 as well as other star-rank officials.

A member of PNPA ‘Tagapaglunsad’ Class of 1993, Torre will be replaced as PRO11 director in Southern Mindanao by erstwhile Southern Police District director, Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Z. Rosete of PNPA Class 1995.

Another PNPA Class 1995 member, Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman was also designated as the new PRO10 director in Northern Mindanao effective Thursday vice newly-retired Brig. Gen. Ricardo G. Layug Jr. of PNPA Class 1993.

Brig. Gen. Marallag was named as the new Cagayan Valley police director, vice Brig. Gen. Christopher C. Birung of PNPA Class 1992 who was transferred as head of the PNPA.

There was no information yet on the next assignment of erstwhile PNP-CIDG director, Maj. Gen. Leo M. Francisco, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class ‘Tanglaw-Diwa’ Class of 1992.
