MMDA, Malabon inaugurate Hulong Duhat Plaza
MALABON City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval expressed her gratitude to Metropolitan Manila Development (MMDA) Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III for the turned over of the Hulong Duhat Plaza to the local government as part of the agency’s Adopt A-Park project.
The turned over ceremony was done following the inauguration and lighting of the plaza, led by Chairman Dimayuga and Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, on Thursday night.
“The MMDA hopes to provide safe and clean areas for family events and recreational activities, which are both equally necessary to the physical and mental health of the public. We will also help in the promotion of urban development and community engagement to address urban decay,” Dimayuga said in his speech during the event.
Dimayuga added that there is an ongoing rehabilitation of the Malabon People’s Park in Barangay Catmon.
For her part, Mayor Sandoval acknowledge and thanked all the people behind MMDA on the inauguration and turned over of the said plaza.
“The Hulong Duhat Plaza is now our space to interact, make friends, and enjoy physical activities,” Sandoval said.
“Our city is always looking forward to partnering with MMDA especially for its Adopt-A-Park project. Rest assured that the local government of Malabon will do its part to further develop the spaces and ensure safety for everyone,” she further said.
The Hulong Duhat Plaza, which covers around 1,500 square meters, has a colorful water play fountain, solar floor lights, tables and benches for chess or dama, steel swings, kiddie riders, and seesaw. Apart from this, the plaza also has a provision for open spaces for zumba and traditional Filipino games such as piko, patentero, luksong baka, and tumbang preso.
Under the Adopt-A-Park project, which started last year and was the brainchild of former MMDA Chairman and now Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr., the LGU shall propose the location, design, and cost estimate, while the MMDA sets the criteria for site selection, provides funding, and implements the construction of the project.
