MEMBERS of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Matikas Class of 1983, the “mistah” or classmates of the slain former senior official of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Wesley Barayuga, expressed their gratitude to the leadership of House of Representatives, particularly to the Quad Committee, that shed light on Barayuga’s assassination.

In a statement sent to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, the Matikas class personally thanked the committee for conducting an investigation that finally shed light on the death of their mistah.

“The Philippine Military Academy Matikas Class of 1983 extends our deep gratitude and appreciation to the honorable members of the QUAD Committee of the House of Representatives, Republic of the Philippines, for the inquiry that finally identified the alleged suspects in the assassination of our dear mistah Wesley Barayuga,” according to the statement from Barayuga’s classmates.

“Your persistent efforts and incisive line of questioning have given light and hope for the successful resolution of Wesley’s tragic assassination 4 years ago,” they added.

The Matikas Class is hoping that Barayuga’s family will finally attain justice now that the personalities allegedly Sita involved in his death have been revealed.

“And on behalf of the family of our dear mistah, we also convey their profound gratitude for the identification of the suspected assailants. It may not bring our dear Wesley back, but it is reassuring that there are people in government who are doing their best to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the group said.

“Such service and commitment to deliver justice and righteous acts as you do today give us confidence that our nation is indeed represented by wise, courageous, and honorable men,” the group added.

For his part, Romualdez thanked the Matikas Class of 1983 for the trust and confidence they have given to the Quad Committees.

“I would like to thank the PMA Matikas class of 1983 for the trust and confidence they have given to our quad committees in looking for justice for their mistah that was assassinated in 2019,” he said. “Rest assured our quad members will continue to look for the truth amid the bashing and hate messages from a certain sector.”

It can be recalled that recently, former narcotics agent Police Lt. Col. Santie Mendoza came forward before the House Quad Comm Airport airport airport airport and admitted that he was tasked to kill Barayuga by former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma and National Police Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo in exchange for P300,000 during the height of the pandemic in 2019.

According to Mendoza, Garma’s order to kill Barayuga was relayed through Leonardo.

Mendoza, a former member of the PNP’s Drug Enforcement Group, admitted that Leonardo called him for a “special operation” against Barayuga, who had been accused of being a “high-value” target in former President Duterte’s drug war.
