MANILA Mayor Maria Sheila “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan yesterday announced that employees of the Manila City government will receive a wonderful surprise from the city government his month.

Mayor Honey hinted that employees would be extremely happy on November 15 but she did not elaborate why and only mentioned that this is because they will all receive their regular salary which drew laughter from hundreds of employees who attended the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.

Atty. Princess Abante, the head of the city’s Public Information Office (PIO) meanwhile said all of the 8,500 regular employees of the Manila City government are set to receive their 13th-month pay, equivalent to their one-month salary, plus a cash gift of P5,000.

She added that a total of P350 million has been allocated to ensure Manila City government employees will have a happy start to the Christmas season.

Meanwhile, the mayor also expressed her gratitude to the management of the Market Administration Office for their hard work in making all public markets in the city clean and orderly.

Administrator Mapoy boasted that all public markets in the city have dedicated employees who are working hard even during Christmas and Lenten seasons or non-working holidays.

She said that her basic rule was to assign employees to public markets that are close to their residence so that they don’t have to spend for their fare while those who are living far from the market where they were assigned their personal request.

Mapoy added that since she took over the office, she was able to reduce the P7 million water consumption of all public markets being paid every month to just PP4 million, and last October, they only paid P2.1 million water consumption.
