A BARANGAY chairman was seriously wounded when shot several times by a still unknown gunman Saturday morning in Malabon City.

Malabon Police Chief P/Col. Albert Barot said Felimon Villanueva, 68, barangay chairman of Bgy. Tonsuya, a resident of C. Perez St., was rushed by residents to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of bullet wounds in the body.

Initial investigation conducted by P/SSgt. Michael Oben and P/Cpl. Renz Baniqued showed that while Chairman Villanueva was sitting in front of his house at around 9:35 a.m., a lone gunman suddenly appeared and, without a word, shot him several times, hitting him in the abdomen and left portion of his body.

After the incident, the suspect immediately escaped on board a Honda Click motorcycle driven by his cohort, who served as lookout, in an unknown direction.

Malabon Police Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS) Chief P/Maj. Ronald Carlos said his men, along with operatives of the Follow-Up Unit, are now conducting a man-hunt operation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.

He said they are requesting barangay officials in the area, owners of the establishment, and private individuals with installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to allow them to view the footage for possible identification of the suspects.

Maj. Carlos added that they intentionally did not disclose the hospital where the victim was being treated for security purposes, while the motive behind the incident is yet to be determined. By Edd Reyes
