For reckless driving, use of ‘wang-wang’, blinkers

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) took action regarding an incident in Cavite involving a Toyota Prado SUV (sports utility vehicle) with a motorcycle (MC) escort counterflowing in Silang that was captured on video and went viral on social media

The motorcycle escort was seen with sirens and blinkers and disrupted the traffic flow by counterflowing, causing obstruction of traffic and further inconveniencing other motorists, particularly the driver who took said video.

Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Atty. Teofilo E. Guadiz III and Law Enforcement Service (LES) chief-LTO NCR Director Clarence Guinto signed a resolution which found the motorcycle rider liable for administrative violations of reckless driving, failure to attach authorized motor vehicle license plate, and failure to carry official receipt and certificated of registration (OR/CR), and was meted a fine of P8,000.

The driver of the SUV was also found in violation of “obstruction of traffic and reckless driving” and was fined a total of P3,000.

The LTO resolution also found both drivers “an improper person to operate motor vehicles, and as such, their driver’s licenses were ordered revoked”, and both drivers have instructed to turn over their licenses to the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID).

Meanwhile, the SUV owner was also ordered to transfer the ownership of the vehicle under his name within 20 days of receiving the resolution. If he fails to do so, the vehicle will be placed on alarm.

Guadiz again appealed to the public “to respect the country’s traffic laws and regulations” to ensure their safety while driving on the country’s roads. The LTO Chief reiterates that road safety is a “shared responsibility”.

He further stressed that LTO will not condone “wanton” disregard of the laws and regulations and any other acts that will inconvenience and threaten motorists’ safety.
