La Salle, Ateneo take centerstage in V-League
FABLED rivals La Salle and Ateneo takes center stage today as the two men’s teams face off in the V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena.
The Green Spikers, fresh off three consecutive victories, are set to test their mettle against a Blue Eagles squad struggling with a 1-2 record under interim coach Vince Mangulabnan at 12 noon.
La Salle has dominated its matches so far, but Ateneo is eager to reverse its fortunes.
“Alam ko naman na handa yung team eh so pag-aralan lang namin kung ano yung naging strength nila sa previous games nila at the same time ika-counter na lang namin,” said Green Spikers coach Jose Roque.
In the other men’s match, University of Santo Tomas takes on NCAA holders University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
Both teams are riding high from recent thrilling victories over National University and Far Eastern University, respectively, and will look to build on that momentum.
As the Golden Spikers continue to play without reigning UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez, JJ Macam and Gboy de Vega are leading the way.
Still without two-time NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez, while the Altas will turn to Kobe Tabuga and Jeff Marapoc.
“Lagi rin kami nagffive-sets (against Perpetual) ‘eh, it will be an exciting match as well. Marami rin matutunan yung mga players against them,” said UST coach Odjie Mamon, who will hand the reins on assistant Ben Mape in the 2 p.m.
In the women’s match division, defending champion College of St. Benilde aims to secure its second consecutive win as it faces Letran at 5 p.m. in a rematch of the NCAA Season 99 Finals.
The Lady Blazers, currently holding a 1-2 record, are led by Wewe Estoque and Zam Nolasco.
Gia Maquilang and Judiel Nitura will be the vital cogs for the Lady Knights.
