
Junior Blue Hawks, Lady Patriots share limelight in 30th NCRAA
THE Immaculada Concepcion College Junior Blue Hawks are your 30th NCRAA (National Capital Region Athletic Association) champions.
The Junior Blue Hawks needed two overtimes to edge Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 95-89, in their winner-take-all championship match at the CSJDM Sports Complex in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
John Morales and JM Corpuz combined for 45 points for Coach Speedy Gonzales as they led the Junior Blue Hawks to a smashing victory before a big crowd that included Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Executive Director Erika Dy, PBA legend Marlou Aquino, ICC President Marco Agana, and other NCRAA officials.
Morales finished with 25 points on 10-of-24 shooting from the field, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in 40 minutes of action.
Corpuz added 20 points and five steals while Peobonel Sacro contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Johann Onoya led the Junior Vanguards of coach Azlie Guro with 22 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five rebounds in 28 minutes of play,
Kurt Tenedero added 19 points and five assists, followed by Kyle Brazil with 11 pointd and Karl Bersabe with 10.
Later, John Morales was named the finals MVP.
In the women’s division, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas outplayed Centro Escolar University, 97-94, to bring home the crown.
Eula Atienza and Manicel Solomon provided the 1-2 punch for the Tito Reyes-mentored Lady Patriots.
Atienza tallied 31 points 9-of-13 shooting from the field and six rebounds in 33 minutes of action while Solomon had 25 points and nine rebounds.
Valerie Gravador and Jayvee Gravador chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Hannah Gumapo paced the losing effort for the Lady Scorpions of coach Mel Gador with 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in 23 minutes of action.
Jerell Banih contributed with double-double performance with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Diana Defeles added 16 points.
Manicel Solomon was named as finals MVP.
