‘Jewel in the Palace’ star now in Manila to shoot new movie

Leah SalterioKOREAN actress Park Eun Hye is best remembered by Filipino fans for her appearance as the king’s concubine in the historical drama, ‘Jewel in the Palace,’ which became a widely followed TV series two decades ago.

The ‘Steel Rain’ and ‘Alchemy’ actress has not been to the Philippines before. Yet, ‘Jewel in the Palace’ became so popular and well-remembered by Filipino viewers.

The series became a No. 1 show in the Philippines and until lately, the series has been replayed on TV.

Speaking through an interpreter, Park Eun Hye gave her answer. “Jewel in the Palace was a very good, unexpected opportunity when I started it,” she granted. “I’m so happy to hear that it is still very popular in the Philippines.

“This is my first time to visit the Philippines and I already met many kind people. I feel so happy. I believe we can make a very good movie during the shoot.”

Recently, however, Park Eun Hye was included in the cast of the Korean-Filipino’s forthcoming collaboration, ‘The Guardian.’ She recently arrived in the Philippines to start filming the movie.

“As an actor, I don’t like to work in an action or thriller movie,” said “Basically, as an audience or viewer, I prefer to watch dramas better.

“When I saw the script for ‘The Guardian,’ there are lots of action scenes. Also there was love for the family and between a son and mother. I think this movie will be one of my favorites.”

Park Eun Hye filmed in Thailand before but she was the sole Korean actor in the entire cast. “Even though there was a language barrier between Thailand actors and actresses, I had a very good memories during the filming in Thailand,” she recalled.

“When I arrived here in the Philippines, I had the same feeling to be working with Philippine actors. Hopefully, I can make other good memories working here in the Philippines.”

In ‘The Guardian,’ Park Eun Hye plays the mom of vocalist of South Korean boy band, Infinite, Nam Woo Hyun, who surprised everybody when he ventured into acting.

“He’s been calling me Omma,” Park Eun Hye said of Nam Woo Hyun. “In real life, I am also a mother. So when I got the script and read the story, I felt very participative in the movie.

“When I’m talking to my son, it’s the same when I do this movie. I’m a mother in real life. Nam Woo Hyun likes it when he calls me Omma because he tries to focus on his role. He tries to practice his lines.”
