
Javiniar fastest in MPTC Tour of Luzon time trial

LABRADOR, Pangasinan — Former waiter-turned-professional cyclist Joseph Javiniar delivered a standout performance in Stage 7’s Individual Time Trial (ITT) of the MPTC Tour of Luzon:
The Great Revival at the Labrador Municipal Hall here Wednesday.
Representing the Excellent Noodles Cycling Team, Javiniar emerged as the fastest among 99 riders, as he clocked 17 minutes and 25 seconds over the 15.2-kilometer route from Lingayen to Labrador in this prestigious event presented by Duckworld PH in cooperation with Cignal.
Two-time Korean national champion Dae-Yeong Joo of the Gapyeong Cycling Team placed second, finishing 38 seconds behind Javiniar despite reaching speeds of up to 62 miles per hour under a scoring heat.
Mervin Corpuz of MPT Drivehub and Nichol Pareja of Victoria Sports Pro Cycling finished third and fourth, trailing 52 and 54 seconds behind, respectively.
Rounding out the top five was Ronald Oranza of Standard Insurance Philippines, who finished one minute off the lead
Completing the top 10 were Joshua Pascual (Excellent Noodles), Jan Paul Morales (Standard Insurance), John Patrick Pagtalunan (7-Eleven Philippines), Jeremy Lizardo (Standard Insurance), and Chin Long Lee of CCN Factory Racing from Hong Kong.
“Sobrang saya. Nakakuha ulit ng panalo sa stage (time trial) kaya sobra talagang saya,” said the talented campaigner from Pagsanjan, Laguna.
“Yun gising ko kanina medyo mabigat pero nabawi naman sa warm-up kanina. Ang plano ko talaga mag-all out ngayong ITT,” added Javiniar.
Stage 8 of the event, known as the Queen Stage, covers a gruelling 177.5 kilometers from Lingayen to Baguio via the challenging Kennon Road.
Meanwhile, Manny V. Pangilinan chairman of the MVP Group of Companies increase the individual prize money this year.
The individual general classification champion will earn P1,000,000 from (500,000), second runner-up P500,00 from (400,000) and third P350,000 from (300,000) while the team champion brings home P1 million in the race also backed by Pilipinas Live, Meralco, Maynilad, Metro Pacific Health, Megaworld, Landco, PLDT and Smart.
The Tour of Luzon: The Great Revival is endorsed by the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, Games and Amusements Board, BCDA and MVP Sports Foundation.
The champion will be crowned after Stage 8 on Thursday in Baguio City.
