A TOTAL of 1,118 persons have already died from COVID-19 in Manila as of May 6, 2021.

This sad news was relayed by Mayor Isko Moreno, who said that of the two latest deaths, one even happens to be a barangay chairman who was a friend of his.

Owing to this, the mayor reiterated calls for everyone to get vaccinated to equip their bodies with added protection against falling under the severe or critical category if they get infected with the coronavirus, saying the jab does not ever equate to immunity.

So far, more than 395,000 individuals have signified their interest in availing of the free vaccination by having themselves registered through the manilacovid19vaccine.com.

The mayor said that those who have received text messages from the city government when they could get their first dose but did not make it on the said date can still avail of the free vaccine whenever they are available.

“Even if you missed your first dose, you may go to any of our vaccination sites anytime pag may first dose deployment. Not on the second dose deployment. You won’t be accommodated because the number of doses are just enough to cover those who got their first dose and are slated to get their second,” Moreno said.

Moreno announces in his Facebook account the schedules of vaccination and the designated sites where those interested may go either for their first or second dose.

Whenever the city receives vaccines from the national government, Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna make sure that these are deployed at the soonest time possible.

Moreno and Lacuna consistently call for residents to continue practicing basic health protocols like wearing of face masks and social distancing.

The total confirmed, active COVID-19 cases in Manila is at 2,384, of which 209 are new, while those who recovered are 55,852, of which 221 are new.

In fact, even those who are fully vaccinated and those who recovered from COVID-19 are being told by Moreno to continue taking extra precautions and to never let their guard down.

In the case of those who have taken their second dose, Moreno said they can still get infected although there is a greater chance they will not end up in severe or critical condition due to the protection provided by the vaccine. On the other hand, he told COVID survivors that they can still get infected for the second time if they are not careful.
