Illegal recruiters

THE public supports the government’s intensified campaign against illegal recruiters, who continue to victimize Filipino overseas jobseekers.

Despite efforts to rid the manpower export industry of illegal recruiters, these “economic saboteurs” still manage to operate in various parts of the country.

But it is to the credit of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) that it is doing everything to address the illegal recruitment problem in the Philippines.

Last Friday, DMW and police operatives, led by Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, padlocked another consultancy firm in Malate, Manila.

Cacdac, DMW officer-in-charge (OIC), identified the firm as the Gisgerman Document Facilitation Services (GIS Manila). with offices in Malate, Manila.

Reports said the consultancy firm was recruiting, offering and promising overseas jobs, particularly in Germany, with no legitimate job orders.

Besides, Gisgerman Document Facilitation Services or GIS Manilka is not a government-accredited private recruitment agency.

Reports reaching the DMW said the firm was recruiting nurses, hotel workers and caregivers for Germany, a major destination of OFWs.

And the firm was reportedly charging exorbitant fees from job applicants.

Clearly, the government, through concerned offices and agencies, is out to hit hard at illegal recruiters, both local and foreign.
