Illegal drugs

THE recent destruction of over P9 billion worth of confiscated illegal drugs has given the government a much-needed boost in the eyes of the Filipino people.

Admittedly, the drug menace remains to be one of the major headaches of the Marcos administration, which completes its first 24 months in office on June 30 (Sunday).

When he assumed office , Mr. Marcos, the 17th President of the Philippines, pledged to continue the nationwide “war on drugs.”

But he pointed out that his “war on drugs” would focus on catching “bigger fish” and emphasizing rehabilitation of drug users, who are considered as “victims.”

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the law enforcement arm of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), incinerated the illegal drugs, mostly shabu and marijuana.

The illegal drugs, which also included ephedrine, were destroyed at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. in Brgy. Aguado, Trece Martires City in Cavite.

The drugs were seized during anti-drug operations conducted by the PDEA, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement and military units.

And they were no longer required as evidence in court following the prosecution of the drug cases, according to reports.

And why should the public commend the government, through the PDEA. for destroying the confiscated illegal drugs?

Para hindi na pilfer ang mga ito at baka maibenta pa ng mga tiwaling kababayan natin sa mga drug dependent.
