THE Department of Justice (DOJ) will ask the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to investigate lawyers allegedly involved in the filing of trumped-up cases to delay the deportation of their foreign clients.

This came to fore after Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has observed that “contrived” cases have hampered the removal of four Japanese fugitives whose deportation being sought by their home country to hold them accountable for robberies and fraudulent activities.

Under the rules, foreigners cannot be deported if they have pending cases in any Philippine courts.

“I have assigned some of my staff to write the Integrated Bar of the Philippines because of all the disciplinary proceedings start with the IBP.”

“So, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines will now conduct its own investigation as to the practice of delaying cases even to contrived cases that should not happen anymore, ” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a chance interview.

As of this writing, two of the four Japanese fugitives have been deported to Japan. The two others will be sent back later tonight, February 8.
They were being suspected of carrying out the robberies and fraud in Japan via an encrypted messaging app from an immigration facility in Manila.
