HIGH RATINGS

DESPITE a targeted dip in his ratings traced largely to political dynamics in Mindanao—the stronghold of the Dutertes—President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. continues to enjoy the overwhelming trust and approval of the Filipino people, according to the latest April 2025 Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey by OCTA Research.

The survey, conducted from April 2 to 5, 2025, showed that six out of ten Filipinos (60%) continue to trust President Marcos, while 59% remain satisfied with his performance—figures that demonstrate the President’s enduring majority support amid political turbulence in select regions.

While the President’s trust rating saw a modest 5-point decrease from the last quarter, a closer examination of the data reveals that the decline is localized, primarily driven by Mindanao, where the Duterte family’s political influence remains strongest. In fact, trust in President Marcos remained exceptionally high across most of the country, with historic highs of 92% in the Ilocos Region, 87% in the Cordillera Administrative Region, and 83% in Cagayan Valley—a resounding affirmation of his leadership from key regions.

Notably, no distrust was recorded against President Marcos in the Cordillera Administrative Region, underscoring the unshakeable loyalty of broad sectors of the Filipino populace.

The dip in Mindanao, while noteworthy, is easily understood within the context of political realignment and traditional loyalties in the region.

Importantly, in every other major area of the Philippines, the President’s majority trust and approval ratings remain firm and stable.

The survey also reported that dissatisfaction with President Marcos remains low nationwide, registering significant dissatisfaction only in Davao, further confirming the isolated nature of the decline.

Across socioeconomic classes, the President’s trust remains strongest among the broadest sector of society—Class E—where he even posted an increase in trust and satisfaction compared to previous surveys.

This only proves that President Marcos continues to enjoy deep support among ordinary Filipinos, the true backbone of the nation.

Moreover, President Marcos remains the single most trusted national leader today, with trust and performance ratings considerably higher than that of other top officials, including the Senate President and House Speaker, despite the political crosscurrents of the time.

This resilience, even amid political turbulence, is a testament to President Marcos’ steady governance, strong economic stewardship, and effective leadership, especially as the country continues to experience sustained growth, improved international standing, and broader investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and technology.

The slight dip recorded is thus neither a crisis nor a repudiation, but a localized, predictable movement in the complex and dynamic landscape of Philippine politics.

Nationwide, President Marcos retains the enduring confidence of the majority of Filipinos—a remarkable achievement halfway into his administration.

As the country moves forward, the results confirm what many already see on the ground: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains the unifying leader of the Filipino people, trusted to chart a better future for the nation.
